Swim Teams

The Severna Park Community Center provides opportunities for all youth and adults who wish to be part of a swim training program. Talented, caring coaches and a supportive community provide a platform for lifelong skills and friendships.

One of the most exciting developments this year is the acquisition of the Athlee underwater dual-camera system. This advanced technology enables coaches and instructors to deliver synchronized video footage from both above and below the water. With this system, coaches and instructors can provide real time feedback, which swimmers can review on a large screen right on the pool deck. Additionally, swimmers may have the opportunity of analyzing their performance and absorbing lessons on their personal computers at home. If you do not want to be videotaped, or you do not want your child to be videotaped, please email Shelly prior to the start of the session.

Youth Swim Teams and Training

Junior Swim Team

Age: 6 – 8 Years Old

In a supportive team environment, the purpose of Junior Swim Team is to develop and improve stroke efficiency, build endurance, and prepare for competition. Each swimmer must be able to swim two lengths of the pool and have knowledge of at least two competitive strokes. Junior Swim Team is perfect for young swimmers preparing for summer swim team season. Participation in 4 intramural swim meets a year for any interested swimmer. Junior swim is currently designed for children 7 & under.

SPCC now implements the use of video analysis to their swim development and training programs. Focused sessions will allow swimmers to receive immediate visual along with coach observed feedback. A valuable educational tool.

SPCC’s Intramural Swim Team’s (IMST) is ideal for the youth swimmer who aspires to join a year-round competitive swim team, or who may not have the time to commit to a competitive swim program. Swim Team Stroke Development Clinic

Age: 6 – 9 Years Old & 10 – 15 Years Old

During the session, all four strokes are evaluated and corrected with the use of drills and coach instruction.

The stroke clinic is a good option for swimmers looking for a focus on strokes and race technique.

The goal of the clinic is to help swimmers improve stroke technique and teach drills that will enable the continued refinement of the strokes.

Swimmers are not required to swim all strokes and may work on only those strokes they choose.

Swimmers will need to bring fins, suit, goggles, and a towel. Fins, which help create buoyancy and propulsion, are important—without them many of the drills may be difficult.

Hand paddles, kick boards, and pull buoys will be provided.
