DANCE CENTER OF SEVERNA PARK INSTRUCTORS

Our highly credentialed staff has years of experience to help our dancers learn proper technique while gaining self-confidence.  Most of our teachers grew up locally and trained under the artistic vision of Carter School of Dance founder Mary V. Carter, whose passion for excellence is ingrained in our program today, under the expert direction of Kellie Greer.

Our instructors use their years of training and passion for dance to focus on each student's development and potential.   Please learn a bit about our leadership here:

Kellie grew up dancing at Carter School of Dance where she passed Cecchetti student Grades I-VI.  She spent time studying in Cleveland, Ohio with the Cecchetti Council of America and SUNY in Buffalo, NY with Dance Masters of America Teacher Training School. She is a member of both the Cecchetti Council of America and Dance Masters of America Chapter 17. Mrs. Kellie's choreography has been nationally recognized and some of her students have gone on to dance in Los Angeles, Boston, and New York. She has passed her Teachers Cecchetti Exams I-IV and is currently working on Grade V. Kellie teaches ballet, tap, jazz, pointe and Cecchetti.

Jennie Young, Assistant Dance Director

Jennie Young (Harrison) is a lifelong resident of this area, and received the majority of her dance training through Carter School of Dance, and also studied under the late Bobbi Smith, founder of Talent Machine Company.  This is her eighth year teaching at DCSP, and first as Assistant Director.  She holds her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Towson University, as well as her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Dance from Elon University.  Jennie has most recently performed with Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre (ASGT). She is the K/1 Director for St. Mary's Performing Arts Camp, and Choreographer for St. Mary's High School Theatre.  During the 2018-2019 school year Ms. Jennie attended two Dance Masters of America MidAtlantic workshops to further her training.   This year she teaches our ballet and tap classes ranging from our “I Can Dance” program through Intermediate/Experienced Adult Tap Sessions.  She is mom to two of our dancers, daughter Charlotte & son Brooks, and welcoming her third baby in December.  Ms. Jennie loves passing on her passion for dancing to our current students and families, as well as collaborating with the staff.  Dancing alongside former classmates in Adult Tap each week is the best reminder of the family that we have here at DCSP.

What Our Community Is Saying

As a former competitive swimmer myself, I introduced my daughter  to swimming at a tender age of 6 months; however she was so terrified of being in any body of water such that even giving her a bath was quite a challenge.
However at age 4 she suddenly told us that she wanted to learn how to swim and so we brought her to Severna Park Community Center (SPCC) and what a beautiful experience we have had. The instructors are so polite, professional and sensitive to the needs of each individual child and our daughter fit right in.  At SPCC she has progressed from not knowing how to swim to being one of the best swimmers in her age group! We as parents are so proud of her achievements at SPCC with the help of the super wonderful aquatic center staff.  We highly recommend SPCC aquatic center to any parent that is serious about having their child/children learn how to swim and you will not be disappointed!
